With the kids out of school for the summer and the sunshine begging you to have fun outside, summer in the South is a great time of year. The days can be long and hot and that means that you need a plan of attack. Start checking off your New Orleans Summer Bucket List, and ensure that this is a season to remember!
New Orleans certainly does not have a shortage of beautiful parks. From neighborhood playgrounds and basketball courts to National Parks teeming with natural scenery and wildlife, there is something for the whole family to do outside. We suggest hitting up City Park where your kids can check out the carousels and trains or play tennis, putt-putt, or cool off in the splash park coming soon! Another favorite summer activity of ours is taking a walk on the wild side at the Audubon Park and Zoo. Here, you can see hundreds of animals and play in their splash park as well.
With mild temperatures sticking around nearly all year, our area is truly one of the best places to live in America. Couple that pleasant air with breathtaking scenery, and it’s also a great place to golf. So whether you’re a single-digit handicap, or you just enjoy spending time on the course with friends, you’re sure to find your next favorite New Orleans area golf course here!
People travel from miles and miles to enjoy the warm sun and beautifully wild scenery of New Orleans and the surrounding areas. Take your summer game up a notch with the many fun opportunities along our shores. You can kayak, jet ski, paddleboard, and even flyboard in the sun-kissed waters of the Bayou or Lake Pontchartrain. There are also a ton of places where you and your family/friends can hit the pool!
New Orleans is world-famous for its food. Because of that, you can get spoiled with amazingly fresh seafood and award-winning chefs. We all have our favorite spots, but this summer is a great time to try out one of NOLA’s newest restaurants. Check out The Elysian Bar in the beautiful Peter and Paul Hotel. Or, head to the Marigny to check out The Franklin, an eclectic new restaurant in an old corner store. There’s also Gris-Gris, the delicious Cajun eatery in the Heart of Magazine. Finally, if you want Latin flair, stop by Otra Vez, the Warehouse District’s newest Mexican restaurant headed up by a Michelin-star chef!
Sometimes you have to break out of your routine to remember how great you have it in your own hometown. New Orleans is a tourist’s dream, and you should regularly follow in their footsteps. Take the kids to the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas where you can walk through a giant water tunnel, pet a stingray, or see gigantic sharks, tarpon, and rays in the 400,000 gallon Gulf of Mexico Exhibit. Afterward, take a carriage ride in the Quarter or go back in time and take a river ride on the Steamboat Natchez or the Creole Queen.
When’s the last time you stayed in a hotel just because? You know the feeling; a big comfy bed, a luxurious robe, room service. It’s an experience you can get used to, and the Crescent City has a plethora of options. Try the hip Ace Hotel and spend a day at the rooftop pool or check out the views from the Pontchartrain Hotel or Troubadour Hotel. If you’re looking for a boutique hostel feel, spend the night at The Quisby right on St. Charles. Of course, you can go with the staples. Pick a night and enjoy!
