The pandemic has brought tough times to many, and our beloved restaurants have felt the pain as well. Many were forced to close, while many shuttered their doors for good. But … if there’s one thing about the Crescent City, we are resilient, and we will fight for our community. Of course, much of our community time here is spent around the table eating the best food in the world, so it’s been music to our stomachs, er, ears to hear that some of our favorite restaurants are open again. Not only that, but one of our favorite annual events, Coolinary, is back for an encore. Pull up a chair, and we’ll tell you more!
Last month, we were greeted with the good news that restaurants like Gautreau’s, Cellar Door, and The Gumbo Shop were back open for business. Things are feeling even more normal and delicious this month as we’ve already heard about several other high-profile openings (or soon-to-be openings):
- Compère Lapin – Legendary chef Nina Compton will be re-opening this Warehouse District favorite on November 11. You’ll be able to get your Creole/Caribbean fare dinner only from Wednesday-Saturday.
- Johnny Sanchez – Celebrity chef Aarón Sánchez has us craving tacos and margs (aren’t we always) again, and we are so glad that this taqueria is back open. You’ll love their smaller menu that’s perfect for takeout with burritos, fajitas, sandwiches, and tacos.
- Gris Gris – With lovely outdoor seating and the gallery seating overlooking the LGD, Gris Gris is the perfect answer to COVID-time eating. Fortunately for all of us, Chef Eric Cook has his restaurant back open for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday as well as a delicious brunch running Saturday and Sunday.
