This year marks the 26th running of the iconic Essence Festival of Culture. Like most things, the 2020 version will look slightly different, but the show will go on! Starting this weekend, #ESSENCEFEST goes digital with TWO back-to-back weekends of music, entertainment, empowerment, and culture.
Essence Fest 2020 was originally scheduled to take place next week but was officially canceled back in April due to the coronavirus pandemic. While you won’t be able to take in all the sights and sounds in the Mercedes Benz Superdome and the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, you can do the next best thing and do it all from the comfort of your home! Bust out your comfy pants and your dancing shoes and let’s dive into what a virtual Essence Fest will look like.
Like so many New Orleans festivals, Essence Fest is anchored by incredible music, and this year is no different.
Clear your schedule for the evening concerts that jam on Saturday (June 27 and July 4) from 6 – 9 PM. Amazing acts include Bruno Mars, John Legend, Nas, Pattie Labelle Common, Tank and the Bangas, Irma Thomas, Wyclef, PJ Morton AND an appearance from former First Lady Michelle Obama.
If you’re like us, your personal appearance may have been put on the back burner. But don’t worry, Essence is bringing a host of experts to get us back on the beauty track on both Fridays of the event! You’ll discover products, styles, and inspiration and hear curated conversations about personal care, aging, and self-image with some of your favorite celebrities and influencers including Naomi Campbell, Jemele Hill, Sloane Stephens, Vanessa Williams, Lena Waithe, and more.
Get Lifted Gospel
It wouldn’t be Sunday, without a little singin’! Hear a message by Bishop Paul S. Morton plus the incredible sound of New Orleans’ very own Greater Sound of Greater St. Stephen FGBC Choir. Then, we’ll all be blessed with performances and speeches from the likes of Pharrell, Bishop TD Jakes, Reverand Al Sharpton, Kirk Franklin, Steph and Ayesha Curry, and many more.
Wealth & Power
This virtual town hall brings an incredible mix of influential thought leaders and change-agents as they educate and equip us for the future. From the 2020 election to empowering our communities politically, economically, and spiritually, there won’t be any hot button issue skipped by voices including Master P, Don Lemon, Rechelle Dennis, and many more.
There’s never been a more important time to take care of ourselves. With that in mind, enter the Essence Wellness House on Thursday and rejuvenate your mind-body connection with meditation, workouts, and healthy-living conversations with some of the industry’s best and brightest!
This year, Essence Fest is UNSTOPPABLE, and we hope you’ll take advantage of all of this amazing music, entertainment, empowerment, and culture. Learn more and get your invite HERE.
