Dream Big With Creative Headboards

By Gardner Realtors | December 1, 2016

In New Orleans, our homes are uniquely beautiful and our style is recognized all over the world. While they are, of course, beautiful on the outside, the art doesn’t stop from the time you walk in the door until the time you lay your head to rest. One of the biggest blank canvases that you have to work with is the space behind your bed. Maybe you don’t have room for a traditional headboard or maybe you just want to spice things up. We hear you, and we’ve got several ideas for creative headboards that you’re sure to love!

Window Dressing

One of the things that makes houses in New Orleans so recognizable is the bright, colorful shutters.  We love the idea of repurposing an old set of shutters and using them as a headboard. We really like the headboard shown above that gives you a great rustic look.

Row Your Boat

We love all things water here in Louisiana and on the Gulf Coast. Consequently, you’ll see a ton of zautical art from oyster shells to mounted trophy fish. Another creative idea is to use old canoe paddles as a headboard. It’s a bit out of the box for sure, but it’s incredibly unique and incredibly Louisiana.

Light a Fire

Louisiana is hot. Not breaking news, we know, but stay with us. It’s hot, so you probably don’t have much use for a fireplace or its ornate mantle. What you can do with that beautiful piece of furniture is turn it into a really cool headboard. It will look great and give you some extra storage space. Check out this full DIY tutuorial.

Go Vintage

If you’re like us, you’re smitten over the classics. That’s a big reason why we love NOLA so much! This one will require some antique pickin’, but we think the search will be just as fun as the end result.

DIY Delight
This beautiful stained headboard is a great DIY project for those who like to get their hands dirty. What starts as a simple piece of plywood turns into this elegantly unique headboard.
